Implementation Outline - Please Make Suggestions

Implementation Outline for
Disruptive Innovation with ePortfolios

The ePortfolio is an innovative way to track student progress, show their learning, and create
ownership of their work.  While creating the ePortfolio for our students, I am also suggesting
that we implement the COVA method of Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authentic learning
method.  This method will instill a sense of pride within the students, and they could use this
ePortfolio throughout their educational experience in our district. We can do better for our
students.

Our desire to change must be greater than our desire to stay the same.  Technology is ever-changing
and we need to change with it to best serve our students.

I would like to implement this new use of technology in the Pre-K classrooms on my
campus.  Their ePortfolio will follow the student throughout their educational career with
this district.

I propose the students use their Google Apps account to access their Google Drive to save
their work, then start building a Google Site for their ePortfolio with the help of the classroom
teacher and the campus TIS (Technology Instructional Specialist).

By doing this at an early stage, it prepares them for the future technology integration in other
grade levels.  In third grade they have to build a website in Google Sites as their technology
project. By starting in Pre-K they will have the skills needed to create, build, expanding, and
reflect on their previous work.

For my innovation project, I am suggesting we start using e-Portfolios in Pre-K.

It will showcase their work and they will continue using through 12th grade in our district.

  1. Look great Angel! Recommendations: place time line for introducing the proposal and on the pilot program.

Angel, first off, my hat is off to you for trying to implement this with Pre-K. I taught Pre-K for 4 years and I know what you will be up against.

Suggestions: I would remove the Instructions portion at the top as that information is not necessary for the someone outside of our DLL program to read. For example, if I were your admin and I wanted to look over your plan, I would be confused as to why that was there and would become disengaged before I got to the "meat" of the page. Also, you have the 5 intro paragraphs listed twice. Once on the page and the other within the embedded file. I would take one of them out.
As someone who has worked with the little ones, your plan seems very reasonable and practical yet innovative for that age group. I hope it works!

    1. Thanks for the suggestions.
The reason I included the instructions is because in the first class I was told to do that. I don't really plan on sharing this blog with anyone outside of the DLL program.
I linked it three different ways because one professor prefers things embedded, one prefers links, etc. I don't want to have points counted off for not doing their preferences. Since we weren't given clear instructions, I wanted to make sure I covered all my basis.
I am going to use the embedded file (Google Doc) on my portfolio, which is the link we have to turn in for a grade.

Angelina, I agree with Cody above. Kudos for wanting to do this with Pre-K.

I think your page is too busy. I did go and look at it last night and I was overwhelmed so I left. Based on your comment that you had 30 visits and only 1 comment I'd have to say that is why. I would definitely take the instructions off as it is not needed. Think about why you have the implementation plan posted three ways on this page (link, inserted, and embedded). You only need it once unless there is a reason that you want it out there three times. I would also reconsider the numbering - each section should start over with Roman Numeral I. One last thought, You said you would show the kiddos your ePortfolio... are you planning on creating a different one more designed for Pre-K as I don't think the kids would understand looking at your ePortfolio form this DLL program

Good Luck to you in this project. - Jill

  4. Jill, thanks for the suggestions.
I listed it three different ways because in every class the professors prefer different ways and I don't want points docked because I didn't know their preference.
I will fix the numbering and start over as you stated. I will show them mine, and explain it as we go in simple terms.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

  5. Angelina, I think that is crazy that they have a preference on how you display it in YOUR ePortfolio (COVA)... that is taking your choice and authenticity away. In the future I'd send the professor an email letting them know.
